The original title of this book was "Journey to the West: War Chronicles". After publication, it was renamed "Across the World". It narrates the fantastical story of a mixed-blood handsome man during the Northern Song Dynasty who travels to Europe to uncover the mystery of his origins, growing and evolving along the way

The most notable feature of this book is its integration of various national myths, including many stories from Aesop's Fables, figures from Norse mythology, and elements of Indian culture. The basic narrative adopts the storytelling style of One Thousand and One Nights, filled throughout with inventive absurdity and humor
